Cohort 10 students present at the 20th Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis

28 Oct 2026

At the end of September, Alex and Rhoda from Cohort 10 travelled to Águas de Lindóia, São Paulo, Brazil, to attend the 20th Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (BMOS). The conference featured a week of outstanding scientific talks from leading researchers in the field, including Nobel Prize laureate Ben Feringa, alongside other renowned organic chemists such as Fernanda Duarte, Daniele Leonori and Helma Wennemers.

Both Rhoda and Alex had the opportunity to present their research through poster presentations and engage with chemists from across the globe. These discussions provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, gain new perspectives and establish connections with researchers working across a diverse range of areas in organic chemistry.

Beyond the scientific programme, they also enjoyed experiencing some of Brazil’s culture and wildlife, including a traditional Brazilian barbecue and sightings of wild capybaras!

Reflecting on their experience, Alex and Rhoda said:

“We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at BMOS. The conference offered an excellent opportunity to attend high-quality, inspiring talks, present and discuss our research with fellow chemists, and network with a diverse range of researchers from around the world at different stages of their careers. We would highly recommend this conference to anyone working in organic chemistry!”
