The CDT in Sustainable Chemistry held its annual Winter Showcase in January 2019. The event was a great opportunity for the Centre’s final year students to present their research to an audience of approximately 80 academics, postdocs, students and industrial partners. The audience had the opportunity to hear about a wide range of research topics such as conservation of wooden Viking artifacts, steps towards more sustainable photochemistry, microwave pyrolysis of biomass within a liquid medium, ways to maximise flavour release during oral processing and many others.
The Showcase also included an excellent keynote lecture by Prof Paul Anastas from Yale University entitled ‘Green chemistry: The future and the necessary journey that lies ahead’.
The event featured a dynamic poster session with further opportunities to network and discuss future projects.
We would like to congratulate John Ryan (Faculty of Engineering) who won first prize with his poster entitled ‘Polymer from pyrolysis products’ and Aaron Senior (School of Chemistry) who received second prize for his poster entitled ‘Strategies towards molecular complexity’.
