Last month, my colleagues from various cohorts of the CDT in Sustainable Chemistry and I had the pleasure of participating in the Nottingham Green Festival, held on September 8 at the beautiful Arboretum Park. The festival, which has evolved from the Peace Festival, is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about sustainability and climate change. Open to all, it features a vibrant mix of workshops, solar-powered live music, vegan food, and eco-friendly stalls, all designed to inspire and engage the community in environmental action.
We had the opportunity to share our research with the public, covering exciting topics such as discovering materials that convert heat into electricity, harnessing the power of microbes for sustainable solutions, and developing biobased, biodegradable materials for everyday products like shampoo. Engaging with a diverse and passionate audience, from children to adults, was both inspiring and rewarding. It was a wonderful chance to translate our work into practical insights and connect with people who share a genuine curiosity about creating a greener future. The energy and enthusiasm at the festival made it a truly memorable experience for us all.
